The history of the Presidential Palace in Hanoi is attached to one of the many legends that have managed to enlarge the figure of Ho Chi Minh in Vietnam today.
The Presidential Palace in Hanoi is located in Ba Dinh district, close to Ho Chi Minh Mausoleum. This is a stunning colonial house built in 1906 and was used as the residence of the highest representative of France, in what the French called as Indochina.
However, when in 1954 the Vietnamese ousted the French, wanted to use this fabulous building and residence of the President of the Democratic Republic of Vietnam, a position he held Ho Chi Minh.
However, the father of modern Vietnam rejected the comfort and luxury of the Presidential Palace and only used three modest rooms for servants to live.
Four years later, he left these rooms to live in what is known as the House Mosquito, a tiny house on stilts where he lived until his death.
Today, this house on stilts is a popular tourist attraction for the Vietnamese, and it was where Ho Chi Minh took most of their decisions. This is the story that links the Presidential Palace in Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh.
