
The city of Stirling has been a major actor in the turbulent history of Scotland during the past 700 years, and for this and many other things, seems to us rather than a must for those of you who are visiting or live in Scotland and, willingly learn more in depth the historical evolution that has followed this wonderful country.
The name comes from the Gaelic Sruighlea Stirling and is situated in central Scotland. The city was formed by an ancient village, based around Stirling Castle and the old medieval center.
The power and wealth that held Stirling during much of its history is largely due to its location atop a hill and, thanks to the river Forth carrying life to the city and divided the northern South country, linking them through the Old Stirling Bridge, which was the only way bridge nearby.
Formerly, it was said that those who dominate and so would keep Stirling Scotland and as a result, the city became known as “the key to the kingdom” or the key to the kingdom.
It is currently a key center for government industries, trade and the country’s electricity. It has a population of approximately 50,000.
Stirling Castle dominates the battlefields where the war for independence of Scotland was largely fought and won. In the same reign Mary Queen of Scots, also known as Mary Stuart, Queen of Scots, and later, also in French. The little king was named queen with only 6 days old.
Located next to the castle, you will appreciate the Church of Holy Rude, Santa Cruz, one of the most important historical buildings of Stirling. Famous for being the only church in the United Kingdom, apart from Westminster Abbey, to have held a coronation.
The Old Town or Old Town retains its distinctive medieval style thanks to the good preservation of the historic integrity of buildings and their references Renaissance readily apparent in the churches and mansions are clustered around the cobbled streets.
