A few years ago Puerto Rico was chosen as one of the best places to go diving in the world. Of all these great places for diving in Puerto Rico is a really fascinating. This is Desecheo Island, situated in the west.
Desecheo is a small, uninhabited island off the west coast of Puerto Rico. It is located about 12 kilometers west of Rincon. A small island, less than one square kilometer of total area. Today is a wildlife haven, a place full of reefs, life and color.
There is one company that leads to Desecheo Island. Taino Divers is called, offering dive packages to the island. We imagine that there are other ways to reach both by boat and plane, but it is best to arrange the trip with this company if you want to go snorkeling.
It’s much better to go to the agency very early in the morning to organize the trip and that you have time during the day to dive and go to the beach. Actually the agency’s staff is very friendly and learn to dive with them is easy.
From corner to Desecheo Island is about 45 minutes by boat. Do not worry, because the ride is very quiet as the sea is usually always calm in this area. When diving the water visibility is perfect. The first place to dive on the island is Candy Land, full of rocks and stones with coral and a variety of fish.
In most of these places just are currents, and depth of immersion is not usually exceed more than 25 meters. You will see turtles, if you are lucky, starfish, tropical fish and shrimp.
Then you can go to the area of reefs, with coral-filled caves. Some points barely a three-meter dives and great places you find fascinating.
So if you want to dive in Puerto Rico it is best to travel to Desecheo Island, one of the best regions to admire the deep sea of the country.
