In New York City is now banned smoking. Since yesterday is now in effect a rule that makes parks, plazas and parks of Manhattan.
Fines for smoking in prohibited areas are about $ 50 for a while and although the rules are likely to be flexible until people get used, it is likely to be applied rigorously.
Since 2003 in New York banned smoking in bars and restaurants, but the new measure generated some controversy among Yorkers.
The objective pursued by the mayor who approved the measure is that people can enjoy open spaces and beaches free of cigarette butts. Perhaps the same would be achieved by special landfills? But are the numbers that support the anti-snuff: in the last 10 years the rate of smoking-related deaths under 17% and since 2003 the number of smokers in New York also has seen a significant reduction.
