The experience of staying in a monastery is an adventure of peace, tranquility and work that may be interesting for everyone regardless of your religion. Having had the experience of spending a few days in a monastery, I can not recommend, especially if you’re after a few days of peace and quiet, or need a break from the crazy pace of the city, or, rather, whether you are in a spiritual quest.

Monasterio de Silos, Burgos, Spain

Monasteries usually have buildings of incredible beauty, often with parts of the Roman era (those found in Europe). Of all these, this monastery in Burgos is definitely the most impressive.

The Benedictine monks who live there are accustomed to travelers and are renowned for respecting the rule of St. Benedict to honor guests. Is that the monastery has a great fame and reputation for its invaluable library, its interesting museum and sharpness of the Gregorian chants that the monks perform several times a day.

The cost per room all inclusive is 38 euros and stay ranging from 3 days to 8 days. Not required to work on campus and attending daily prayers is optional.

Monastery of Montserrat, Catalonia

Located in the mountain of Montserrat, this Benedictine monastery has a history of very interesting origin: apparently there is a huge statue of a virgin that locals wanted to move. But the statue could not be moved, so the monks decided to build the monastery around it.

But what has become famous over the monastery is the choir, the boys’ choir oldest in Europe.

To enter the monastery you have to take mountain routes, or it can take a train that leads to Montserrat and then a cable car.

The abbey has a section for catering and restaurant services. The price depends on the type of accommodation chosen but start around 30 euros. In the abbey offers promotions.

Kopan Monastery, Nepal

In a completely different note we can choose to stay a while at this monastery and attend meditation classes with over 360 monks.

The monastery also has its rules: you can not drink alcohol or sexual behaviors, while praying rules “do not kill, thou shalt not steal ….” On the other hand, all the meals served are vegetarian and are shared with the monks.

The stay can be up to a month and the cost is only 1 euro per day in a shared room and from 7 euros for a single room. Yes, I will take your coat at night.
